DINARI

Dinari is a celebrated lion at the Franklin Park Zoo in Boston. This is Dinari's story. Dinari had lived with his brother Kamaia at the Franklin Park Zoo.  Dinari and Kamaia were seen happily nuzzling and sunning together. Dinari saved Kamaia’s life by donating blood to him during an illness which ended with Kamaia having his spleen removed. Blood transfusions are rare in zoological settings due to lack of donors. But, because Dinari and Kamaia were littermates, Dinari was a perfect match. The surgery was a great success. The surgery allowed them to have more time together. Sadly, Kamaia died in September of 2023. Dinari celebrated his 16th birthday in March 2025.
